Fresno, Calif. hosted the latest fight card to be offered by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) on Saturday night, Dec. 9. UFC Fight Night 123 took place inside the Save Mart Center for the Fresno crowd with a fight card full of entertaining match ups. However, there was one fight during the night that took an awkward and unexpected turn. For UFC featherweight Jason Knight, things simply did not go the fighter’s way on Saturday.
During the event, Knight went toe-to-toe with Gabriel Benitez. However, as Knight had his opponent pressed against the fence, the fight was unexpectedly stopped. Benitez showed sings of pain in his hand, getting the attention of the referee. After stopping the fight, the referee had the doctor look at Benitez’s hand. After which, it was determined that the fighter was bitten in the hand by his opponent. Knight immediately had a point deducted for the incident and the fight was permitted to continue.
While the incident didn’t quite carry the fallout of Mike Tyson’s infamous biting of Evander Holyfield in their rematch back in 1997, the fighter has still gained some ire from the Fresno crowd.
