Max Holloway is the reigning, defending UFC featherweight champion. The fighter went head-to-head with one of the mixed martial arts promotion’s historically most dominant featherweight fighters twice. On both occasions, the fighter has walked out of the octagon as a winner. Now many competitors from the world’s most famous mixed martial arts promotion have come forward with their thoughts on Holloway’s recent victory.
Fight fans flocked to the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan on Saturday night, Dec. 2, for the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s most recent event. This time, the promotion hosted UFC 218 for the Detroit crowd and for fight fans tuning in to the live pay-per-view worldwide.
In the main event for the evening, UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway fought to defend his title from a mixed martial arts phenom. For the fight, the reigning champion went toe-to-toe with former title holder Jose Aldo.
Holloway and Aldo first threw down back at UFC 212. Aldo was the reigning champion at the time, as Holloway held the interim title for the division. Aldo and Holloway put on a war at the night’s event, but Holloway ultimately walked away with a title unifying TKO victory over his opponent.
For UFC 218, Holloway was initially set to defend his title from Frankie Edgar. Yet Edgar was later pulled from the main event title shot due to an injury. Aldo stepped up on short notice to face off for the title once again.
Holloway put on a dominant performance over the former champion at UFC 218, earning his second consecutive third round TKO victory over “Scarface.”
With the epic UFC 218 main event now in the books, it’s time to see what many of the UFC’s top competitors had to say about Detroit’s big headliner.
