Former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez and rising star Justin Gaethje just finished coaching the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s new wave of female flyweight competitors on The Ultimate Fighter 26. With the season having now come to a close, after a series of trash-talking and competition, the two MMA warriors went toe-to-toe at Saturday’s, Dec. 2, UFC 218.
UFC 218 took place Saturday night inside the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. In the night’s highly anticipated main event, UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway earned a chance to defend his title.
The fighter unified his featherweight belt in brutal war against Jose Aldo at UFC 212. While Aldo is historically one of the mixed martial arts promotion’s most dominant featherweight fighters, Holloway managed to earn a title unifying TKO victory over the fighter.
At UFC 218, Holloway and Aldo went toe-to-toe for the title once again. In a dominant performance, Holloway managed to earn a consecutive third round TKO victory over “Scarface.”
Of course, UFC 218 offered many more exciting fights on the night’s card. Among them, Eddie Alvarez and Justin Gaethje entered a bloody war that had the Detroit crowd screaming and on their feet.
Gaethje only had a single fight inside the octagon on his record leading up to UFC 218. Yet, the fighter was still considered a fan favorite to many. The fighter earned a stunning TKO victory over Michael Johnson at The Ultimate Fighter 25 finale, earning the mixed martial artist the favor of many fight fans.
Still, Eddie Alvarez managed to put the fighter away at UFC 218 with a knockout victory in the third round. Check out a replay of the epic match up in the video below:
