Michael Bisping understands why UFC President Dana White is backing up Conor McGregor when it comes to how well the Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor pay per view (PPV) event from last August.
Dana White had publicly blasted Showtime claiming they’re not being accurate with the numbers the show produced. He’s sure the fight was the biggest and most successful event in combat sports history, but Showtime doesn’t agree and has not promoted it that way.
Showtime Executive Stephen Espinoza then went on social media in response to White. This brought UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor into the Twitter debate, who also blasted Espinoza for his claims. This resulted in a lot of back and forth bickering between all parties involved.
However, UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping knows that there’s bragging rights involved so he gets why Dana is so defensive with anything that has to do with Conor.
Bisping states, “I think they want the cache and the bonus and the kudos of Conor being involved in the #1 pay-per-view event of all time. I think that does wonders for promotion from Conor’s stand point. I mean, who wouldn’t want to claim that? Number 2 is still fantastic, but being number 1, that’s incredible. It’s pretty simple.”
