UFC President Dana White was recently shocked when mentions of Cain Velasaquez returning for a title shot were approached.
Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has not competed inside the octagon since 2016. The fighter earned a first round TKO victory over Travis Browne at UFC 200, before succumbing to an injury that pulled Velasquez from his anticipated match up at UFC 207.
The former champion has since been quietly recovering from his injury and getting in what training he can during the process. With the fighter now closer to being healthy, fight fans are beginning to wonder when Velasquez will be back inside the octagon for another shot at the UFC heavyweight title.
In a media scrum back in Dec., Dana White offered his thoughts on Velasquez immediately getting a title fight upon his return.
“Cain? When was the last time you saw Cain fight? Cain hasn’t fought in forever. Cain is going to have to come back and, you know, fight somebody to even think about getting in that spot. And I’m sure Cain doesn’t want to come back and jump right in the fire. He’s been out for a while.”
