T.J. Dillashaw has been targeting a super fight with Demetrious Johnson for some time now. Now the two mixed martial arts warriors have agreed to the same date for their highly anticipated match up.
UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson turned down a offer to fight Dillashaw prior to the champion’s record breaking performance. Rather, “Mighty Mouse” went on to face Ray Borg. With a submission victory over the fighter, Johnson earned his place in MMA history by breaking the coveted UFC record for most consecutive title defenses.
Since then, Dillashaw has gone on to earn the UFC bantamweight title and is looking to get the flyweight title holder’s attention once again. As provided by mmanytt.com, Dillashaw recently revealed that he would like to take on Johnson this summer. Specifically, Dillashaw wants to fight the flyweight champion during International Fight Week.
“I would love to fight on a big card in June or July,” Dillashaw said. “This is a hyped up fight that could be on one of those big stacked cards just like we had at Madison Square Garden. It’s going to be a huge draw. Why not make this another Super Bowl card? That would be my dream because it’s so hyped up, it’s going to be amazing.
“Hell yeah [International Fight Week] that would be awesome. Super big.”
Demetrious Johnson has since come forward to reveal that he is now interested in facing the UFC bantamweight champion. More to the point, “Mighty Mouse” wants it to go down during International Fight Week as well.
“Recovery is going good. I had rotator cuff [surgery], labrum and joint clean-out,” Johnson said during a Metro PCS chat. “After 11 title defenses and 12 championship fights, the old dog needs to get some rehab. I got it cleaned up.
“Six weeks recover, we can get strong again, and hopefully T.J. Dillashaw can get this match done. Hopefully July, International Fight Week, on a big, big card.”
