Despite the UFC’s best efforts, they’ve been unable to lockdown the highly anticipated super-fight between Demetrious Johnson, aka “Mighty Mouse”, and TJ Dillashaw.
For his part, Dillashaw has been nothing but vocal about his desire to cut down in weight to challenge the current reigning pound for pound king of the UFC. However, Johnson seems unenthusiastic with the challenge, and instead has taken the Cris Cyborg approach to the bout.
Johnson maintains he wants to keep the integrity of his division alive by fighting flyweights with a proven track record. And despite Dillashaw being a UFC champion in his own right, the super fight has done little to motivate Johnson to sign a contract.
The UFC tried to put the fight together last year, and continue to do so in 2018 as well. But now, according to reports, Demetrious Johnson has opted for shoulder surgery instead.
Johnson will go under the knife to repair an undisclosed shoulder injury this afternoon, and no further information has been given, other than that it has pushed back his return to UFC action even further.
The UFC, and Dillashaw will no doubt try and wait for the champ to recover, but as these things go, Dillashaw still has his own belt to defend.
Stay tuned.
