Since The UFC Won’t Pay, Fighter Forced To Create GoFundMe For Cornerman Airfare

Under most fighter contracts the UFC only covers a few things on fight week.

Fighters can expect to receive compensation for making weight and fighting. They also get paid for wearing the official reebok fight gear. The UFC covers their accommodations, such as travel and lodging too.

Under most UFC contracts the promotion only pays for the fighter plus one. Meaning one cornerman is covered with air and hotel. The fighters then must come up with the additional cost on their own, to cover their full coaching staff’s travel and lodging, if they want them to be at their fight.

Sometimes lesser known fighters have a hard time coming up with these funds, and will bring in additional sponsors to help cover the cost. That’s not a fool proof plan though, as UFC heavyweight fighter Timothy Johnson has learned.

Johnson is set to fight next week in Brazil, and after a couple sponsors didn’t hold up their end, he’s forced to ask for fan support to get his team down to Brazil.

He has created a GoFundMe to aid in these efforts.

The GoFundMe page reads,

As many know the UFC has me traveling around the world for fights. What most people don’t know is they only pay for 2 tickets. Sponsorship money is tight and had a few not contribute to this trip. So I’m asking for your help in the last minute ditch effort to help get my other two coaches to Brazil for my fight, as this will be going towards their flights. Any extra will be donated to wounded warriors or a similar donation. Thanks for your time and support.

The UFC heavyweight took to his facebook with a plea to friends and fans.
