Professional wrestlers trying their skills inside the cage within the sport of mixed martial arts is certainly not unheard of. Brock Lesnar went on to become a UFC heavyweight champion during his tenure with the promotion.
Phil Brooks, better known by his WWE moniker CM Punk, took a tough loss to Mickey Gall inside the octagon. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has even admitted to nearly wanting to train his way to an octagon debut in the past.
With all of that in mind, it would appear that John Cena fans looking to see the popular WWE superstar enter the octagon will likely never get their chance.
Speaking to Larry King, Cena had the following to say about the UFC.
“It’s done great establishing itself as a brand. But in comparison with us, it doesn’t resonate with me just because I’m a storyteller and I enjoy the story we can tell in the ring.
“And like I say, I think we do it better than everyone. [UFC] truly has marketed itself extremely well. It has fantastic exposure and there is no denying the athletic ability that it takes to step into the Octagon.
“It’s not something I could do. I’m not taking anything away from anyone in UFC because their success speaks for itself. But as far as it resonating with me, it’s just not something I’m a fan of.”
