Earlier today it was revealed that Max Holloway was out of his scheduled UFC 222 main event against Frankie Edgar with an injury.
Now, just hours from that news breaking, the UFC has reportedly booked a new main event in it’s place.
A rematch between Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw is now going down in it’s place.
Dillashaw was recently linked to a super-fight against Demetrious Johnson. However, that bout, expected for July, can still happen should Dillashaw be able to repeat history against Garbrandt, because UFC 222 goes down in just a month.
Earlier today Garbrandt sent out a cryptic tweet, that now makes sense.

The UFC has yet to confirm this bout as official, however, Brazil’s Combate is reporting that the deal is done, and they’ve proven a valid source for breaking UFC news.
Here’s their report: (Translated)
The UFC moved quickly against Max Holloway ‘s possible absence from the fight in which he would defend his featherweight belt against Frankie Edgar at UFC 222 . As the champion is likely to be injured, the organization has rushed to close a new belt dispute for the event, which will now have a rematch between TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt for the belt of the weights. The Combate.com found the information from sources close to the event. With that, Dillashaw, who had his name linked to a superweed against Demetrious Johnson for the flyweight belt, will make at least one more fight in his home category – Johnson underwent shoulder surgery and will have to spend some time off combat, to recover from the intervention.
After losing the rooster belt to Dominick Cruz and retaking him at UFC 217 in New York, knocking out Cody Garbrandt, TJ Dilashaw again faces his former teammate Alpha Male. At 31, Dillashaw has 18 fights in the standings, with 15 wins and three defeats, and currently comes three consecutive victories against Raphael Asuncion, John Lineker and Cody Garbrandt.
Five years younger than the champion, Cody Garbrandt saw his unbeaten 11-fight be broken with the knockout suffered in front of TJ Dillashaw at UFC 217. Former category champion, Alpha Male team member will try to reclaim the belt he lost in Nova York.
