Yesterday afternoon the UFC 222 pay-per-view event lost it’s main event when Max Holloway was forced to withdraw with an injury.
The UFC tried to get a replacement main event in the form of TJ Dillashaw vs. Cody Garbrandt.
It looked like the rematch between the world’s top two bantamweights was a lock, but in the final hour, Dillashaw and his coach Duane Ludwig pulled back on the brakes and changed their mind.
The UFC has been scrambling to try to save the card, but without a headliner suitable for pay-per-view it’s been rumored the event might get cancelled all together.
Well… In step Nate Diaz.
The UFC super-star fights in two divisions. Both at lightweight and at welterweight, making his list of suitable opponents very large.
Additionally, after more than a year absent from competition, Diaz, who holds the record for the #1 and #1 most bought pay-per-views in UFC history, is more than a suitable draw to carry an entire card.
The Los Angeles Times reports it:
The best option to fill in for the @BlessedMMA void at #UFC222 is @NateDiaz209 and he tells me he’s ? interested….make it happen @ufc
