Former UFC title challenger and UFC mega-star Nate Diaz has been officially offered a UFC title shot, and the bout is currently in negotiations.
The on-again-off-again UFC welterweight will look to stay in the UFC’s 170 pound division, it would seem, and dace Tyron Woodley for his welterweight world title, should a deal be struck.
The UFC champion revealed this news to ESPN on Tuesday, stating that the fight is under heavy consideration for July, and he’s betting his house that the UFC and Nate Diaz will come to terms for the proposed title fight.
Here’s Woodley’s statement:
“I think that fight will happen. I think it will happen this year. I think it’s way more likely than people realize. There are conversations about Nate and I fighting in July. The UFC has offered Nate that fight. They just have to make it worth his while.
“I think I’ll fight Nate this year, and I think it will be my return to the Octagon. If I had to bet the house on it, that’s my next opponent.”
If the deal gets done, this will be Nate Diaz’s second UFC title fight. His first was against Benson Henderson, and he lost it via decision.
