Let’s be honest, UFC president Dana White can be one of the most outspoken and harshest executives in sports today. And when you’re an athlete and mess up an event, he’s usually fuming mad.
Scheduled for tonight’s main event, Yoel Romero was contracted to make 185 pounds on the dot, and fight for the UFC’s interim middleweight world title against Luke Rockhold.
Yoel though, came in at 188 pounds on his first attempt, and with a two-hour allowance came in at 187.7 on his second attempt.
This resulted in a renegotiation for Rockhold and the UFC, and according to reports, Luke was able to squeeze more money out of the promotion to take the fight at a new weight.
The normal Dana White roasts guys for less than what Yoel Romero did yesterday. However, the UFC boss seems to be in a better mood than normal, because he actually sides with Yoel on this one.
Check it out:
Dana White, via text, on UFC 221: “Romero took this fight on short notice when Whittaker fell out and he didn’t get a full camp. I appreciate him stepping up and taking the fight. If wins he doesn’t get the belt, if Rockhold wins he’s the interim champ”
