It would appear that negotiations may still be underway for a rematch between Team Alpha Male Warrior Cody Garbrandt and UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw.
UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway recently pulled out of his headlining match up against Frankie Edgar for UFC 222, putting the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) into a scramble to land a new main event for the fight card. Rumors quickly rose that a rematch between Garbrandt and Dillashaw was being targeted for the empty headliner slot.
Dillashaw later offered a list of reasons why he did not want to face “No Love” inside the octagon on short notice. However, Garbrandt has since come forward to reveal that negotiations are still underway for the hopeful title fight throwdown.
Speaking on the latest edition of The MMA Hour, Garbrandt stated:
“He had some stipulations that he wanted an automatic rematch if I were to beat him.”
“It was confusing to me, it was almost a done deal and his coach talked him out of it. He’s Duane’s puppet and he listens to him. It’s alright, he made all his excuses, you can’t make a guy fight ya…”
“I spoke with the vice president of the UFC, and he said he’s still trying to make the fight happen…”
“I’m still optimistic it will happen. I’m hoping he will grow a nut sack over the weekend and make the fight happen.”
“They know lightening doesn’t strike twice and they want to be prepared.”
“He wants to make a lot of excuses and bring fatherhood into it. But you want to sit there and act like you can’t train?”
“Being champion you have to be ready at all times.”
“He’s healthy he can be training. That’s life, you have a kid and you work around it.”
“If you want some of my purse, I’ll give it to you. I don’t give a fuck about money. I want my title back”
