The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is scrambling to lock down a new main event for the promotion’s upcoming UFC 222 headliner. With UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway now out of the running, the UFC is targeting Frankie Edgar and Brian Ortega as the night’s main event.
UFC 222 was initially set to see Holloway defend his title from former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. Edgar was initially set to face off against Holloway back in 2017, but was forced to pull out of the event due to an injury. Now Holloway has pulled out of UFC 222 due to an indisclosed injury.
MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani has now taken to social media to report that the UFC is looking to pin Brian Ortega and Frankie Edgar against each other for a non-title fight.
UFC 222 goes down March 3 inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. The event will be featured live on pay-per-view.
