Ibrahim Kawa, manager to UFC middleweight contender Yoel Romero, has provided an update on the fighter’s recent injury.
UFC 221 went down on Saturday night, Feb. 10, inside the Perth Arena in Perth, Western Australia. Headlining the event, Yoel Romero went toe-to-toe with former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold.
The two mixed martial arts warriors put on an octagon battle for the Perth crowd. Romero earned a knockout victory in the third round, but suffered some serious damage in the process.
During the fight, Rockhold struck his opponent with some seriously powerful leg kicks that began to affect Romero’s abilities early in the fight. Romero would later claim that Rockhold’s second leg kick in the first round broke his leg.
Romero was unable to stand after the fight, forcing the competitor to take his post-fight interview from the mat. The fighter would then be carried out of the arena in a wheelchair.
With that in mind, manager Ibrahim Kawa has since come forward to reveal that Romero’s leg is in fact not broken. The fighter is now expected to be fully recovered within two weeks.
“With @YoelRomeroMMA in the hospital. Leg is fine people couple weeks and he will be good to go”
