The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was in Las Vegas, Nev. over the weekend for the highly anticipated card of UFC 222. With the exciting night of fights now in the books, the time has come to take a look at the UFC fighter payrolls.
As part of the UFC’s uniform deal with Reebok, the sports apparel company compensates fighters for their octagon performances. The compensation is dictated by the number of fights each competitor has completed under the UFC, Zuffa-era of WEC and Zuffa-era Strikeforce.
However, there have been a few alterations to the payout process as of late. For starters, the payout tiers have been altered to better compensate the median of UFC fighters.
Fighters with 1-3 bouts take in $3,500 for their octagon performance. Fighters with 4-10 bouts receive $5,000. Competitors with 11-15 bouts are granted $10,000. Fighters with 16-20 bouts take in $15,000. Lastly, competitors with 21 bouts and more rake in $20,000.
However, the UFC has also decided to rename the compensation as “fight week incentive payments.” Fighter pay is now based on a trio of subjects. Reebok outfitting pay, conduct and media obligations are now all taken into consideration for payment.
While undefeated mixed martial arts warrior Brian Ortega managed to do what many believed couldn’t be done, the fighter still only walked away with $5,000 from Reebok outfitting for his performance.
The fighter faced off against former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar in the night’s co-main event, earning a stunning knockout victory in the first round. “The Answer” had never been finished before in his storied UFC career.
Brian Ortega was not the only fighter to walk away with a small compensation for his efforts. Check out the full list of Reebok outfitting payouts below:
