The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is reportedly looking to put together an interim UFC welterweight title fight. Now two notable welterweight champions from the mixed martial arts world have come forward to offer their thoughts on the matter.
UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is currently dealing with a tough shoulder injury that required surgery. With the fighter now healing up, the UFC has begun targeting an interim title fight between Colby Covington and Rafael Dos Anjos for UFC 224. The live pay-per-view event will take place May 12 within the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Taking to Twitter, Bellator welterweight champion Rory MacDonald offered his thoughts on interim title fights within the sport of MMA.
“interm title shots in mma = garbage”

A fan then brought up Tyron Woodley’s position within the UFC, MacDonald was quick to respond.
“if a champion refuses to fight he should be striped of the title”
And as a bonus, Ben Askren weighs in too…
“Giving an interim at WW is so ridiculous. @TWooodley only been out 8ish months and defended 4 times in 12 months prior”
