Alexis Vila, a mixed martial arts veteran that trains out of American Top Team, has been arrested. The fighter is now facing a charge for second-degree murder.
Vila has competed for a series of top level promotions over his career within the sport of mixed martial arts, from Bellator MMA to World Series of Fighting. As reported by MMA Fighting, the fighter was arrested in Miami on April 17 on a charge of second-degree murder concerning conspiracy and a weapon. A warrant for the fighter’s arrest was reportedly issued March 29.
The 47-year-old fighter is currently being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center within Miama without bond. The fighter has a pending hold for immigration.
Vila won a bronze medal in wrestling for Cuba during the 1996 Summer Olympics. The fighter is also a two-time wrestling world champion.
