UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson suffered an injury over the weekend that has pulled the fighter from his upcoming headlining match. Now UFC President Dana White has seemingly provided some details as to what may have caused the injury.
Tony Ferguson was initially set to face off against undefeated division contender Khabib Nurmagomedov for the undisputed title in the main event of UFC 223. Just six days out from the fight, Ferguson tore his LCL.
Nurmagomedov is now set to face off against UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway in the night’s headliner. Ferguson will be stripped of his interim title and Conor McGregor will be stripped of his undisputed title the moment Nurmagomedov and Holloway begin their big fight.
Speaking on his popular podcast Joe Rogan Experience, as seen within the video above, longtime UFC commentating veteran Joe Rogan recently offered some inside information concerning the scenario.
Rogan revealed that he has been informed that UFC President Dana White stated Tony Ferguson was wearing his famous sunglasses while indoors at a recent media event. “El Cucuy” then tripped over a cable, causing the fighter to tear his LCL.
