Khabib Told The UFC He Wanted “Burger King” Conor McGregor, Not Max Holloway

Undefeated UFC lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov is gearing up for the fight of his career. With that in mind, “The Eagle” has come forward to reveal that his current opponent is not who he initially had in mind.

UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov were initially set to throw down for the undisputed lightweight title in the main event of UFC 223. However, Ferguson has since been pulled from the match up after suffering an injury.

Consequently, UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway stepped up on just six days notice to face Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title. Speaking on the latest edition of The MMA Hour, as seen within the video above, Nurmagomedov revealed that he first wanted UFC superstar Conor McGregor as his replacement opponent.

Making fun of McGregor’s recent Burger King ad campaign, Nurmagomedov stated “I told first thing, ‘where is this Burger King?’ The fighter continued to demand Conor McGregor, but is ultimately set to face off against the reigning UFC featherweight champion.

UFC 223 goes down April 7 inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The event will be featured live on pay-per-view.
