UFC lightweight Dustin Poirier put on a stunning performance over the weekend. Following the fight, Poirier decided to call out reining UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Now the UFC President’s thoughts on the matter have been revealed.
Dustin Poirier went toe-to-toe with Justin Gaethje in the main event of the highly anticipated fight card for UFC on FOX 29 on Saturday, April 14. The event took place inside the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona.
The two mixed martial artists put on a fight of the year contender that ultimately ended in Poirier earning a TKO victory over his opponent. After the fight, Poirier demanded a shot at the title by calling out champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
UFC President Dana White offered his thoughts on the matter when interviewed for the UFC 223 post-fight show.
“[Dustin Poirier] is right there.” White said. “He was one of the guys I was going to call last week for Khabib. But, I didn’t want to mess up this event.”
