Following Saturday’s Win, Edgar Wants his Promised Title Shot

Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar has been terribly close to a featherweight title shot twice now. The fighter was set to face reigning champion Max Holloway back at UFC 218, but was forced to pull out after suffering an injury.

The two mixed martial artists were once again scheduled to fight at UFC 222. However, Holloway suffered an injury that forced him out of the match.

Consequently, Edgar went toe-to-toe with Brian Ortega for the night’s event instead. Ortega knocked out Edgar within the first round, earning the undefeated fighter a shot at the title.

With Frankie Edgar having put on a victorious performance over the weekend, having defeated Cub Swanson at UFC Fight Night 128, “The Answer” is now once again looking for his title shot.

Speaking to MMA Junkie after the recent victory, Edgar offered his thoughts Ortega and Holloway’s upcoming title fight.

“I’d like to see what happens with that. I would love the winner of that fight.”

“I was supposed to get the title shot, and obviously, we know what happened. But I’m No. 3 in the world, and those guys are ahead of me.”

“I get it why people (question my chin). You look at past people that have done it before, and maybe it didn’t go their way. But like I said, I think I’m just different.

“I took some good shots in there. Cub can crack, and I didn’t get phased by any of his punches, so I think I shut the doubters down once again.”
