Former UFC light heavyweight title contender Alexander Gustafsson has become heated rivals with former title holder Jon Jones over the years. While Jones is currently dealing with a drug test failure, Gustafsson says he would be down to fight Jones in a boxing ring.
Jon Jones failed his drug test for UFC 214, leading to the CSAC revoking the fighter’s license to compete. USADA has yet to even decide their punishment for the infraction, leaving Jones open to possibly receiving a multi-year suspension from the octagon.
Speaking to longtime UFC commentator Joe Rogan on his podcast Joe Rogan Experience, Alexander Gustafsson revealed that he would be willing to stand and box with Jones in the meantime.
“If he doesn’t come back, maybe I’ll fight him in boxing. (Winning over him) is bigger than winning the belt.”
“It just has to be a meaningful offer, it has to be something I feel, ‘This is right, this is what I want.’ I feel like in my position, in my career right now, every fight has to mean something.”
“It could be something else too (besides Jones or Cormier rematches), but it has to feel right. It has to be something meaningful. Something good. Everybody knows when I’m stepping up into that octagon I’m going to perform and I’m going to make a show. I’m looking for that gold. That’s all I’m seeing.”
