The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was in Brooklyn, New York over the weekend. This time around, the world’s most famous mixed martial arts promotion hosted the highly anticipated fight card of UFC 223 from inside the Barclays Center.
Co-headlining the night’s event, reigning women’s UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas and former title holder Joanna Jedrzejczyk went toe-to-toe in an octagon war for division dominance. While Namajunas earned a swift first round TKO victory over her opponent in their first match up, this fight ultimately went the distance.
The fight was largely a kickboxing match, as neither competitor seemed interested in taking it to the canvas. In the end, Namajunas earned a unanimous decision victory over her opponent.
Jedrzejczyk would go on to criticize the judges’ decision, claiming that her larger total of significant strikes should have earned her the victory. However, Jedrzejczyk had a larger percentage of leg kicks than Namajuna’s brutal power punches to the head.
By the end of the fight, Jedrzejczyk was seemingly mangled by her opponent’s bombs while Namajunas was simply gassed by the endeavor. Check out a comparison of the two fighters’ faces just a single day after the match up.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk’s face can be seen wrapped in bandages within the social media post below, as the fighter took some serious damage to the face.
Rose Namajunas, on the other hand, is seemingly in great shape following her title fight victory.
