Review The Tape — No Tap, No Sleep, Still Loses Via Stoppage — Is This The Biggest Ref Mistake In UFC History?

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) put on another dazzling night of fights over the weekend. Now a clip from one of the more shocking finishes of the night has made its way to the internet.

The world’s most famous mixed martial arts promotion was in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Saturday, April 21, to host the highly anticipated fight card of UFC Fight Night 128. There inside the city’s Boardwalk Hall, former Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series star Ricky Simon went toe-to-toe with Merab Dvalishvili in what would become a controversial match up.

The fight ultimately went the distance, with Simon locking in a guillotine choke attempt in the final moments of the 15 minute fight. The referee never called a stop to the contest, as Dvalishvili was seemingly defending the submission attempt until the sound of the bell.

However, once the bell had signaled the end of the bout, officials began to take to the octagon. After some discussion, it was determined that Ricky Simon had earned a TKO victory over his opponent.

The officials’ decision to rule Simon’s victory via a TKO finish was chosen after it was determined that Dvalishvili was forced unconscious by the submission attempt, despite the referee’s decision to not call a stop to the contest.

Check out the controversial finish within the video above.
