Reigning UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw is now set to face off against former title holder Cody Garbrandt in an immediate rematch. With that in mind, Dillashaw has come forward with his thoughts on the matter.
Dillashaw first faced off against “No Love” at UFC 217, earning a second round TKO finish over the fighter. Now the two mixed martial artists will throw down at UFC 227, to battle it out for the title.
Speaking on the latest edition of The MMA Hour, T.J. Dillashaw offered his thoughts on the matter.
“I don’t think in any form does Cody deserve the rematch. But I’m happy to do it. The UFC obviously wants it. So I mean, if they want it, they’re going to pump this up. For whatever reason they want to put Cody in there. I think it’s a great fight for me. He doesn’t deserve it whatsoever on the sport side of it. But I’m a businessman and I’m going to go out there and put him away.”
“There’s still some built-up animosity, you know? It’s not going to just go away all of a sudden. You know he should be, he’s pushing for this title fight, he wants this, he wants that, but, in all reality, I mean, I don’t think he realizes how much is on the line. What’s he going to do after I knock him out two times in a row?”
“Immediate rematches or rematches in general, I don’t know if they ever really do change. I see myself winning this fight even easier. Just like with the Barao situation, I went out there and won the second time even easier.”
