UFC heavyweight Derrick Lewis is set to face off against rising knockout artist Francis Ngannou. With the fight now drawing closer, Lewis has come forward with his thoughts on his upcoming opponent.
Lewis has been trash-talking Ngannou for some time now. The heavyweight first criticized Ngannou for his alleged issues with cardio during his title fight against Stipe Miocic.
Since then, Lewis has been continuing to lay it on for the knockout artist. Speaking on the latest edition of The MMA Hour, Lewis has now decided to criticize the fighter yet again.
“Beating on Francis is really not going to really do too much for me anyway, because the guy got to where he’s at right now on luck. He fought Overeem. Overeem doesn’t have a chin. He fought Arlovski. Arlovski doesn’t have a chin. Fight somebody that’s tough. Fight a Mark Hunt, somebody like that who’s real tough. Don’t fight these old guys who are already on the downside of their career.”
“[A knockout will come in] probably a round and a half. Most likely, yea. The two minute mark of the second round, tops. … You never know, but there’s 100 percent no chance that I’m gonna try to shoot on him.”
Lewis and Ngannou will throw down at UFC 226. The highly anticipated live pay-per-view event will take place July 7.
