Mixed martial arts legend Vitor Belfort laid his gloves in the center of the octagon over the weekend. Now fellow former UFC champion Jon Jones has come forward with a message for the Brazil native.
Belfort faced off against Lyoto Machida on the live pay-per-view main card of UFC 224 on Saturday, May 12, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In the end, the fighter suffered a brutal front kick knockout loss to Machida. Belfort announce his retirement from the sport shortly after.
Taking to Instagram, Jon Jones has now decided to offer a heartfelt message to Belfort concerning his retirement. The former UFC light heavyweight champion also wants to face off against “The Phenom” in a grappling match.
Jones and Belfort first faced off back at UFC 152. Belfort managed to extend Jones’ arm in a nasty armbar attempt, but ultimately lost the submission. In the end, Jones earned a fourth round submission victory over his opponent.
Taking to Instagram, Jones stated:
“Enjoy your retirement brother, you deserve it. Thank you for the magnificent fight, learned a lot about myself that night. Nothing but respect for you @VitorBelfort
Ps I know my arm would have been a nice little trophy for you, maybe we can run it back sometime in the future. Charity jujitsu match or something”
