The UFC’s attempt to crown a legitimate female champion in their newly minted female flyweight division, has so far been a major flop.
That’s because, after introducing the weight class in “The Ultimate Fighter” house, Nicco Montano would go on to win the series and be crowned champion.
And while that was the show’s natural progression, Montano is far from championship level. She is 1-1 in her last two fights, losing the fight prior to her title shot on the regional scene.
Now, having not fought since December, and with no return date set, MMA reporter Ariel Helwani reveals that the UFC is growing tired of her holding the belt captive.
Check it out:
UFC is losing patience with Nicco Montaño. As I reported last week, the plan was for her to defend the 125 title against Valentina Shevchenko in Calgary but they are having a hard time getting a commitment from her. While it’s not scrapped, they are now looking at other options.
