It is the end of an era, a mixed martial arts legend Vitor Belfort laid down his gloves in the center of the octagon over the weekend. With that in mind, a fellow MMA veteran is already looking to welcome the Brazil native to a career outside of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and away from USADA.
Vitor Belfort faced off against fellow former UFC title holder Lyoto Machida on the live pay-per-view main card of UFC 224 on Saturday, May 12, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Machida managed to finish his opponent with a stunning front kick knockout reminiscent of Anderson Silva’s previous highlight reel front kick finish over “The Phenom.”
Belfort announced his retirement shortly after, as the fighter had reached the end of his fight contract. Taking to Twitter, MMA veteran Phil Baroni recently decided to offer his thoughts on the matter.
Referencing Belfort’s use of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) through therapeutic use exemptions (TUEs) within the UFC before the days of USADA, Baroni revealed “I’ll be first to welcome trt Belfort back.”
Out of the UFC, Belfort could potentially join another promotion and avoid the stringent methods of the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).
