Professional wrestler turned mixed martial artist Phil Brooks, better known by his WWE moniker CM Punk, is set to make his big octagon return this weekend. Now MMA veteran turned UFC analyst and commentator Dan Hardy has come forward with his thoughts on the matter.
CM Punk has become a topic of controversy within MMA. The former WWE star made his octagon debut against Mickey Gall, suffering a devastating first round defeat.
Punk had never competed in a professional or amateur MMA fight before his octagon debut. Now Punk is set to compete on the live pay-per-view main card of UFC 225 for his octagon return.
Longtime UFC commentator Joe Rogan would go on to criticize Punk’s octagon return. Now Dan Hardy has decided to offer a few words.
As seen within the video above, Hardy had the following to say when asked if he believes Punk deserves a spot on the UFC 225 card.
“Honestly, no, I don’t. I like CM Punk. We all have to start somewhere. Because he is such a famous star, he couldn’t step onto a low level show. So, he’s going to get fed to the lions. So when he steps into the UFC, at least he knows the UFC are going to match him properly, which is what they have done.
“He doesn’t deserve the exposure he is getting over the fighters lower down on the card. But ultimately if you put him on the card, more people will watch it before anyway, because it’s CM Punk and they don’t normally watch MMA.
“It swings around-a-bout.”
