UFC lightweight Al Iaquinta is gearing up to throw down with Justin Gaethje. Now the fighter has come forward with some details concerning his strategy going into the match up.
Iaquinta and Gaethje are each coming off of tough losses. Iaquinta battled Khabib Nurmagomedov in a five round war at UFC 223, ultimately suffering a unanimous decision defeat. Meanwhile, Gaethje recently put on a fight of the year contender against Dustin Poirier that ended in a fourth round TKO loss.
Now Gaethje and Iaquinta are locked in to throw down at UFC Fight Night 135. The exciting match up goes down Aug. 25 from within the Pinnacle Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Speaking to FloCombat’s Lucas Grandsire, Iaquinta revealed that he has no intentions of entering an all out war with Gaethje come fight night.
“I’m ready for one, but I’m not expecting one. I’m ready for it, but I’m definitely not expecting it. Guys that go, ‘Oh, this is going to be a war.’ What the heck is wrong with you? That’s the best case scenario? You’re going for a war?
“So, the worst case scenario is you probably get knocked out fast. My best case scenario is I go in there and I make it look smooth. I make is look easy. I make it look simple. I make him look stupid.
“That’s what I’m training every day. That’s what I do.”
