Rafael dos Anjos may now compete within the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s welterweight division, but the fighter is also a former UFC lightweight champion. Now dos Anjos has come forward with some details as to why he decided to make the move up in weight.
Do Anjos went toe-to-toe with Eddie Alvarez back at UFC Fight Night 90. Dos Anjos suffered a title ending first round TKO loss to the fighter.
Speaking at the UFC 225 Media Day, dos Anjos revealed that the weight cut for the fight was nearly deadly.
“I passed out three times. I went out and went back like probably three times. One of the times, I was out for almost three minutes. When I fell back on the bathtub, I almost hit the back of my head on the sink. I could have died.”
Dos Anjos is now set to face off against Colby Covington for the interim welterweight title at UFC 225 on June 9. The event will be featured live on pay-per-view.
