Interim UFC welterweight champion Colby Covington earned his belt back at UFC 225 after beating Rafael dos Anjos by decision. Reports quickly followed that Covington had turned down a UFC 228 match up against reigning UFC welterweight title holder Tyron Woodley due to undisclosed reasons. It has since been reported that the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) now has plans in place to strip the interim title holder.
As reported by ESPN, the UFC has officially locked in Tyron Woodley to face rising contender Darren Till at UFC 228. The promotion is planning to strip Colby Covington of his interim title at the beginning of the fight, similarly to the treatment of Conor McGregor and Tony Ferguson at UFC 223.
UFC 228 takes place Sept. 8 in Dallas, Texas and will be featured live on pay-per-view.
