UFC 227 Loses Marquee Bout On Five Days Notice

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is currently gearing up for the highly anticipated fight card of UFC 227. While the event is set to go down this Saturday, it would appear that one of the night’s match ups has been cancelled.

UFC 227 goes down this Saturday, Aug. 4, from within the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif. Headlining the night’s card, UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw is set to take on former title holder Cody Garbrandt in a title fight rematch.

Also featured on the night’s card, UFC women’s bantamweight Bethe Correia was initially set to face off against Irene Aldana. However, it would appear that the fight has since been cancelled.

As reported by Combate, the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) pulled Correia from the card due to a surgery the fighter received on her left eye back in Oct. Consequently, the UFC will reportedly not be looking for a short notice opponent for Aladana. Rather, the fight has been cancelled entirely.

Bether Correia is a former title challenger, having suffered a tough loss to former champion Ronda Rousey. Correia is a veteran of the sport and a trailblazer of women’s mixed martial arts. Now, however, it would appear that the fighter will not get a chance to compete this weekend.
