UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson suffered the end of his longstanding title reign over the weekend. Now the fighter has come forward to reveal the debilitating injuries that plagued him during the fight.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) hosted the highly anticipated fight card for UFC 227 on Saturday from within the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif. Co-headlining the night’s live pay-per-view event, Demetrious Johnson went toe-to-toe with Henry Cejudo.
Cejudo avenged his former loss to the champion with a split decision victory for the title. As reported by MMA Mania, “Mighty Mouse” revealed a few injuries after the fight.
“I’m fine. Losing happens. Every great champion loses. I’ve lost before when I fought Dom [Dominick Cruz]. I lose in the gym. So I’m fine.
“I’m more upset about the injuries, but other than that I’m okay.”
“I think I probably tore my right LCL and then my right foot might be broken. I think the right LCL probably happened in the second or third round. I remember we were scrambling and I maybe shot and then he kind of pushed me over and I rolled over on my right knee and I was like ‘there goes the right LCL.’
“And the foot, that’s just from kicking and kicking and kicking and kicking.”
