White Says Covington Could’ve Faced Woodley, Chose Not To

Colby Covington is the reigning interim UFC welterweight champion. Despite that fact, Covington is not the next in line to challenge Tyron Woodley for his undisputed title.

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is set to face off against undefeated rising challenger Darren Till. The two mixed martial artists will throw down in the main event of UFC 228 on Sept. 28, live on pay-per-view.

The UFC has since revealed that Colby Covington is now set to be stripped of his interim title the moment UFC 228’s main event begins. Speaking on UFC Unfiltered, as seen within the video below, UFC President Dana White revealed that Colby Covington was not able to fight Tyron Woodley because the interim champion elected to receive a surgery for his sinuses.
