Two of Conor McGregor’s previous performances have broken UFC pay-per-view records. Now it would appear that the mixed martial arts megastar may have a third.
Conor McGregor is set to make his massive octagon return on Oct. 6 for the main event of UFC 229. For the live pay-per-view event, “Notorious” will be taking on undefeated UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov for fight fans worldwide.
Speaking to ESPN, UFC President Dana White revealed that UFC 229 is now “trending” to do more nearly another 1 million PPV buys than the highest sold event in UFC history.
“It’s massive. There has been a lot of talk about this thing doing 2 million buys. We’re trending right now at 2.5 million buys so that’s how big this fight is. The biggest fight we’d ever done was Diaz vs. McGregor at almost 1.6 million pay-per-view buys. Then we did the Floyd Mayweather fight. And now this by far is the biggest fight and one of the biggest fights ever in combat sports to be honest with you.”
