Saturday night the world of boxing returned to combat sport’s center stage with the highly-anticipated rematch between Canelo Alvarez and GGG.
Alvarez picked up a majority decision win, capturing GGG’s world title in the process, after a thoroughly entertaining 12-rounds of toe-to-toe action.
After their first fight went to a draw, and now that Saturday’s bout was razor-thin close, GGG is personally calling for an immediate rematch.
“We would like to have a third fight,” Golovkin said at the post-fight press conference. “We will negotiate it. It would be great to have a third fight.”
The Alvarez camp doesn’t seem too interested in an immediate rematch with GGG though, as Oscar De La Hoya told the press that David Lemieux is likely next for his Mexican star.
”A fight with David Lemieux is possible for December in New York,” Oscar de la Hoya.
When asked about a potential trilogy bout, Canelo stated, “We have to talk with my team and figure things out. But the idea right now is to fight in December.”
