Valentina Shevchenko was initially set to face off against Nicco Montano for the UFC women’s flyweight belt on Saturday for the co-main event of UFC 228. However, the fight was cancelled after Montano was rushed to the hospital on Friday.
Montano has consequently been stripped of her title and rumors have been spreading that the UFC is targeting a fight between former Muay Thai opponents Valentina Shevchenko and Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
Speaking to MMA Junkie, Jedrzejczyk has revealed that she is interested in facing Shevchenko inside the octagon for the vacant UFC women’s flyweight title.
“Who knows – maybe this year. The thing is, I’m very open to move up and face Valentina. I always want to face the best athletes, the best fighters in the world, and Valentina is one of the greatest muay Thai and also MMA fighters.
“I’m very open, but I must sit down and discuss some things. We’ll see what’s going to happen.”
“One of my biggest dreams is becoming a champion in the 125-pound division and becoming a champion in two different divisions. I’m still dreaming about it, and I know it’s going to happen sooner than later.”
