Former UFC women’s bantamweight title challenger Valentina Shevchenko was initially set to face off against Nicco Montano for the UFC women’s flyweight title back at UFC 228. However, the fight never came to be.
Montano was rushed to the hospital after suffering kidney issues during her weight cut one day before the fight. Consequently, the fight was cancelled and Montano was stripped of her UFC womens’ flyweight title.
Rumors have since been floating around that the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is interested in pinning Valentina Shevchenko against former UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the vacant title. Speaking on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, Jedrzejczyk has since revealed that she believes that a super-fight against Shevchenko is the “fight to make” and that she is interested in setting up the title fight.
