Conor McGregor is currently set to throw down with UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. With the fight now drawing closer, former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has come forward with his opinion on the match up.
“Notorious” will be making his big octagon return in the main event of UFC 229. The event will take place Oct. 6, live on pay-per-view.
With Conor McGregor being a talented knockout artist and Khabib Nurmagomedov being lauded for his Sambo wrestling, many fight fans have come to expect that “Notorious” will be looking to stay far away from any grappling exchanges. That being said, Jon Jones thinks the Dagestan native shouldn’t sleep on McGregor’s wrestling skills.
Speaking on Allow Me To Interrupt, “Bones” Jones recently came forward with his thoughts on the matter.
“I believe that Conor McGregor has wrestling. I don’t think it’s at the level of Khabib. I believe that Khabib will get the majority of his takedowns that he goes for. Conor, he’s an athlete. He shouldn’t be underestimated.”
“I think Khabib, his boxing defense isn’t the the strongest. I don’t understand why he doesn’t work a lot of jiu jitsu. If you can take down anybody, why not know how to finish them? He depends on ground and pound and he never finishes anyone with that. Khabib is a black belt wrestler. If he adds a black belt in jiu jitsu to his recipe, he’d be extremely scary.”
