Nicco Montano and Valentina Shevchenko nearly battled it out for the UFC women’s flyweight title back at UFC 228 on Sept. 8. However, the fight never came to fruition.
Montano was pulled from the fight on one days notice after being hospitalized for kidney issues. Montano has since been stripped of her women’s flyweight title over the matter.
Since then, rumors have been spreading that the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is looking to line up a bout between Valentina Shevchenko and former UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the vacant title later this year. Shevchenko and Jedrzejczyk have crossed paths multiple times within the world of Muay Thai, with Shevchenko having earned multiple victories over the former UFC champion.
Speaking on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, Valentina Shevchenko has since revealed that she is interested in facing her former Muay Thai opponent inside the octagon for the vacant title.
“We have out history with Joanna in Muay Thai, why not start a history in MMA.” Shevchenko said.
