Former ONE Championship welterweight title holder Ben Askren is currently close to signing a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). With that in mind, it would appear that the former title holder now wants to spearhead a new division within the promotion.

The UFC is currently negotiating a historic trade of former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson for ONE Championship’s Ben Askren. The trade has not yet been finalized, but is reportedly close to being finished.
Taking to Twitter, Ben Askren has now decided to campaign for a 165 pound division within the UFC. Of course, Askren is just the latest of a string of fighters that have voiced an interest in a 165 pound weight class.
“165 will be a division. @ufc just need a star to start it, like Rousey for women’s 135. Well they got a star, take that shit to the bank.”
