Khabib Nurmagomedov successfully defended his UFC lightweight title on Saturday. Facing off against Conor McGregor, the reigning champion earned a submission victory within the fourth round of their UFC 229 match up on Oct. 6.
Nurmagomedov then leaped out of the cage and sparked a brawl between the opposing fight camps. The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) has since opened up an investigation into the matter.
Speaking to MMA Fighting, The Ultimate Fighter veteran and current Bellator heavyweight Matt Mitrione has since come forward with a few words on the incident.
“I’m happy I got out of that circus.”
“It’s going to hurt the sport of mixed martial arts overall. It already has. It’s things like this are what the casual fan or the reluctant viewer says ‘See, that’s the sh*t right there. Those are the neanderthals. Those are the dudes that don’t fit into society. Those are the guys that only do a hobby. It’s not a professional sport.’ It hurts us man. It sucks.”
