UFC And ONE Championship Now Finalizing Historic Trade Of Two Massive Fighters | UFC News

Former ONE Championship welterweight title holder Ben Askren has been trying to make his way to the roster of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) for some time now. It would now appear that the former champion may get his wish.

Ben Askren vacated his ONE Championship welterweight title still undefeated, as the fighter elected to retire from the sport of mixed martial arts. However, Askren has since been campaigning for a position within the ranks of the UFC.

As reported by ESPN, a trade is now being negotiated between ONE Championship and the UFC. In exchange for allowing Ben Askren to be released from his contract so that he may sign with the UFC, the UFC is being prompted to release former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson from his fight contract so that “Mighty Mouse” may sign with ONE Championship.

Demetrious Johnson holds the highly coveted record for most consecutive title defenses in UFC history, having most recently been dethroned by Henry Cejudo at UFC 227 in a decision loss. If the deal goes through, it will be a historic moment for mixed martial arts. A trade has never been made between such high level MMA promotions over such high level fighters.
