Following last Saturday’s UFC 222 event, UFC President Dana White revealed that he wanted to cancel plans for a proposed Raquel Pennington vs. Amanda Nunes bout, in favor of a champion vs. champion fight between his bantamweight female champion and Cris Cyborg.
That appears to be out the window now, as the promotion just made the official announcement that Nunes vs. Pennington will take place at UFC 224.
UFC 224 goes down on May 12, 2018, at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The night’s main card will air live on pay-per-view. The UFC’s announcement also revealed that the women’s title fight will headline the card.
Amanda Nunes is on a six fight winning streak, having only lost to Cat Zingano since signing with the UFC. She most famously knocked out Ronda Rousey in the first round of their UFC 207 main event.
Pennington hasn’t seen action since her November,2016 decision win over Miesha Tate. She is currently riding a four fight win streak.
