Just five years ago, Ultimate Fighting Championship did not feature a single woman fighter on their roster. While UFC President Dana White admitted he was wrong in saying it, he was adamant at the time about not having women throw down inside his octagon. In the meantime, women like Ronda Rousey, Gina Carano, Miesha Tate and Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino were tearing it up in Strikeforce and Elite XC looking to put women’s mixed martial arts on the map.
It wasn’t long after Rousey win over Tate in Strikeforce that White would adopt the women’s bantamweight division before ultimately opening up women’s strawweight and featherweight weight classes. It’s at the point now where when the women walk into the octagon, they are no longer viewed as “woman fighters”, but rather just “fighters”. Men and women of the UFC celebrated International Women’s Day on Wednesday their own way, and you can check out how below:
My life has been an #InternationalWomensDay for a long time. From @MegaMeguCat to @QoSBaszler & many more.
