UFC women’s flyweight champion Nicco Montano was initially set to defend her title in the co-main event of UFC 228. However, the title fight was cancelled after Montano was rushed to the hospital on Friday. Now it would appear that the champion has been stripped of her title.
UFC 228 is set to take place this Saturday, Sept. 8, live on pay-per-view. Nicco Montano was set to fight Valentina Shevchenko in the night’s co-headliner. However, Montano was rushed to the hospital on Friday after suffering kidney issues during her weight cut.
TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter has since reported that he has been informed by UFC President Dana White that Nicco Montano has been stripped of her title following the fight cancellation. Valentina Shevchenko is now expected to fight a yet undecided opponent at a later date for the now vacant belt.
